Rework by xFigura Design Competition: Official Terms and Conditions
1. Sponsor
The competition ("Competition") is organized and sponsored by xFigura, Inc., 6 Liberty Square, PMB #508, Boston, MA 02109, USA ("xFigura", "we", "us"). Questions: info@xfigura.ai.
2. Acceptance of These Terms
By registering for the Competition, you accept these Terms and Conditions ("Terms") and agree to be bound by them. If you enter as part of a team, the registering member confirms acceptance on behalf of all team members, and confirms that each team member has agreed to share their name and social handles with xFigura and has read Section 12.
3. Eligibility
(a) The Competition is open to individuals aged 18 or over at the time of registration, worldwide, both students and professionals. For the purposes of the Student Mention, a "student" is a person enrolled in a degree or diploma program at an accredited educational institution at the time of registration; xFigura requires a valid student ID from shortlisted students before awarding the Student Mention.
(b) Employees and contractors of xFigura, members of the jury, and their immediate family members are not eligible to win. Entries from employees of a jury member's firm remain eligible, but the affiliated jury member will abstain from scoring those entries.
(c) The Competition is void where prohibited by law. Residents of countries or regions subject to comprehensive U.S. sanctions may not participate. Entrants are responsible for ensuring that their participation is lawful in their place of residence, and xFigura may withhold a prize where awarding or paying it would be unlawful.
(d) Entry is free. No purchase is necessary to enter or win. Use of a paid xFigura plan is not required; a free xFigura account is sufficient to enter.
4. How to Enter
(a) Registration. Registering through the official registration form gives you the brief. You enter the Competition by submitting an entry by the Deadline. Registration opens October 20, 2026 and remains open until the Deadline.
(b) The brief. The design brief will be emailed on November 9, 2026 to everyone registered at that time, and immediately upon registration to anyone registering afterward.
(c) Submission. Submissions are accepted from November 9, 2026 until November 29, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET (the "Deadline") through the official submission form.
(d) Teams. You may enter solo or as a team of up to ten (10) people. Every team member must meet the eligibility requirements. The person who submits the entry is the team's point of contact and prize recipient (see Section 9). Team members are named in the submission, and team composition is final at the Deadline.
(e) One submission per entrant or team. An individual may not appear in more than one submitted entry. Registering does not by itself count as a submission: a solo registrant may later submit as part of a team, provided they appear in only one submission.
(f) xFigura account. Each entrant (or at least the submitting team member) must hold an xFigura account.
5. Submission Requirements
(a) Each submission must include: one main image (JPG or PNG, long edge 3,000 to 4,000 px); one social carousel at 1080 x 1440 px of up to 10 images; a written narrative of up to 300 words including team names and social handles; a video link (30 to 60 seconds); and a share link to the entrant's xFigura board showing the design process. Optional: 3 to 5 supporting images (JPG or PNG, long edge at least 2,000 px).
(b) All images and video are submitted as links (for example Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Yandex Disk, YouTube, or Vimeo), set so that anyone with the link can view them. By submitting a video link, the entrant grants xFigura the right to store and publish a copy of the video on xFigura's own channels under Section 10; xFigura will obtain that copy from the entrant or by means the hosting platform permits (such as a downloadable file, an export, or embedding).
(c) The design must be produced primarily using the xFigura platform. Other tools may be used alongside xFigura.
(d) Late, incomplete, or non-conforming submissions may be disqualified. xFigura is not responsible for lost, corrupted, or undelivered uploads, links, or emails. Entries whose links cannot be opened by xFigura or the jury may be disqualified.
6. Content Standards and Originality
(a) Submissions must be the entrant's own original work, created for this Competition.
(b) Entrants are responsible for ensuring their submission does not infringe any third party's intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights, and that they have obtained any permissions needed for materials incorporated in the submission.
(c) Submissions must not contain unlawful, defamatory, hateful, or sexually explicit content, and must comply with xFigura's Acceptable Use Policy.
(d) xFigura may disqualify any entry that violates this Section or these Terms, at its sole discretion.
(e) Each entrant will indemnify and hold harmless xFigura from third-party claims arising out of the entrant's submission or breach of these Terms, including intellectual property infringement claims.
7. Judging
(a) Screening. The xFigura team will review all qualifying submissions and select a shortlist of approximately 20 entries. The xFigura board submitted with each entry is reviewed alongside it, and xFigura may ask any entrant for further evidence of their design process; failure to reasonably demonstrate that the design was produced primarily in xFigura is grounds for disqualification.
(b) Jury. An independent jury of practicing architects, selected by xFigura, will review the shortlist and select the winners. Jury members will be announced on the Competition page on November 9, 2026.
(c) Criteria. Entries are evaluated on: impact (how much the second life changes the building and the people who use it); sustainability (what the design keeps, reuses, and saves); design quality; and storytelling. Each criterion is scored out of 10.
(d) xFigura Choice. The xFigura Choice prize is selected by the xFigura team from the qualifying submissions and announced with the other winners.
(e) Decisions of xFigura and the jury are final and binding. xFigura reserves the right not to award a prize category if an insufficient number of qualifying entries is received.
8. Prizes
(a) The total prize pool is $15,000 USD, allocated as follows: First Place $8,000, plus a feature across xFigura channels; Second Place $3,000; Third Place $2,000; xFigura Choice $1,000; Student Mention $1,000; up to five Honorable Mentions each receive 3 months of xFigura Pro. Every author of an accepted entry receives a certificate.
(b) The winners will be announced on or about December 11, 2026 and notified by email.
(c) Cash prizes are paid in USD by bank transfer (or an equivalent method xFigura reasonably selects) within 60 days of announcement, after the winner completes the payment and tax documentation described below.
(d) Tax documentation. Before payment, each cash winner must provide a completed IRS Form W-9 (U.S. persons) or Form W-8BEN / W-8BEN-E (non-U.S. persons) and valid payment details. xFigura will issue tax forms (such as IRS Form 1099-MISC) where required by law. Winners are solely responsible for all taxes on prizes in their own jurisdiction, should consult their own accountant or tax advisor regarding the tax treatment of any prize, and acknowledge that xFigura does not provide tax advice and is not responsible for any winner's tax liability. Winners must return the required documentation and valid payment details within thirty (30) days of xFigura's request; otherwise the prize is forfeited and may, at xFigura's discretion, be awarded to another entrant. xFigura may require proof of identity, age, or other eligibility before awarding any prize.
(e) Prizes are non-transferable and no substitution is permitted, except that xFigura may substitute a prize of equal or greater value if a stated prize becomes unavailable.
9. Team Prizes and Credits
(a) For winning team entries, the cash prize is paid to the team member who submitted the entry, on behalf of the team. Allocation of the prize among team members is the team's own responsibility, and xFigura has no liability for any dispute among team members.
(b) Every member of a winning team (First, Second, Third, xFigura Choice and Student Mention) receives 1,200 xFigura credits in their own xFigura account (one credit grant per person; members must have an xFigura account to receive credits).
(c) Credits are promotional, non-transferable, and not redeemable for cash.
10. Intellectual Property and Image Rights
(a) Entrants retain ownership. Entrants keep all right, title, and interest in their submissions, to the extent such rights exist under applicable law, including all intellectual property rights. For outputs generated on the xFigura platform, ownership is governed by the xFigura terms of service, which provide that users own their outputs; in case of conflict regarding such outputs, those terms control. For these Terms, a "submission" includes all materials provided through the submission form and any shared xFigura board.
(b) License to xFigura. By submitting an entry, each entrant grants xFigura a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license, with the right to sublicense to its service providers and media or platform partners solely for the uses permitted in this Section, to reproduce, display, publish, and share the submission (in whole or in part, including images, narrative, and video) on xFigura's website and social channels, in press materials, and in marketing connected to the Competition or future editions of it, including paid promotion of the Competition and its results, in each case with credit to the entrant(s).
(c) Video. The license covers any video submitted or linked, including the right to store a copy and publish it natively on xFigura's channels rather than only linking to it. Where the video is hosted on a third-party platform, xFigura will obtain the copy from the entrant or by means that platform's terms permit.
(d) Format changes. xFigura may resize, crop, trim, reformat, compress, subtitle, or add captions and xFigura branding to images and video so they fit each channel, without altering the design shown.
(e) Entrant's promises. Each entrant confirms that they have the rights to everything in the submission, including any music, footage, images, models, or software output used, and that every identifiable person who appears in an image or video has agreed to appear in it.
(f) Credit. xFigura will credit the entrant or team substantially in the form provided in the submission narrative. Entrants additionally grant xFigura the right to use their names, social handles, and likenesses as they appear in submitted materials, solely in connection with Competition publicity, including paid promotion.
(g) What xFigura will not do. xFigura will not sell entrants' submissions, will not license them to third parties for the third party's own commercial use, and will not use submissions to train generative AI models.
(h) Moral rights. To the extent permitted by law, entrants agree that use of submissions consistent with this Section does not violate their moral rights.
(i) Duration. The license in this Section survives the end of the Competition, and archival Competition results pages may remain available indefinitely. For other marketing, an entrant may request removal of a submission by emailing xFigura at info@xfigura.ai, and xFigura will stop new marketing uses on request. Content already published in print or in paid campaigns that are running may stay until they end.
(j) No confidentiality. Submissions and any ideas they contain are provided without any obligation of confidentiality or compensation beyond the prizes described in these Terms.
(k) No engagement. Participating in or winning the Competition is not a commission, engagement, or offer of employment, and creates no agency or ongoing relationship with xFigura.
(l) Brief materials. Site imagery, the brief, the template board, and other materials xFigura provides are licensed to entrants solely to create their Competition submission and for no other purpose.
11. Discount Codes
Registrants receive a promotional discount code for 75% off the first month of xFigura Pro by email. Codes must be redeemed by December 11, 2026, are intended for one use per person, and have no cash value. Full code terms accompany the code email.
12. Personal Data
(a) Who is responsible. xFigura, Inc. is the controller of your personal data for this Competition. Contact: info@xfigura.ai, with the subject line "Europe Privacy Request" for requests under EU, UK, or Swiss law.
(b) What we collect. Registration: first and last name, email, phone number, and whether you are a student or professional. Submission: team members' names and social handles, your entry, and your xFigura account email. Winners: identity, payment, and tax details.
(c) Why, and on what legal basis. To run the Competition (register you, send the brief and your discount code, judge entries, publish results, and pay prizes), because it is necessary to perform our agreement with you under these Terms. To use your phone number only to reach you about the Competition if email fails. To meet tax and legal obligations for prize payments. To send our newsletter only if you tick the newsletter box, based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link. Competition emails themselves (the brief, your discount code, and submission reminders) go to all registrants regardless of the newsletter choice, as part of running the Competition. We also rely on our legitimate interests to keep the Competition secure and fair, including preventing fraud and abuse, and enforcing these Terms.
(d) Who receives it. Our service providers, which process it on our behalf: Tally (forms), Customer.io (email), Attio (contact records), Notion (entry review and judging), and Stripe (discount code redemption), plus our payment provider for prizes. The jury sees shortlisted entries and entrant names. We do not sell your data.
(e) Transfers outside the EU and UK. Our providers store data in the United States. We protect these transfers with the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission, as described in our Privacy Policy.
(f) How long we keep it. We keep your personal data for as long as necessary for the purposes above, including running future editions of the Competition you take part in, and as needed for tax, legal, and compliance obligations, as set out in our Privacy Policy. Data linked to your xFigura account is kept while your account is open. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. Published entries and the credit that goes with them stay online for as long as we show the work under Section 10.
(g) Your rights. You can ask to access, correct, delete, or export your data, object to or restrict its use, and withdraw consent, by emailing info@xfigura.ai. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
(h) More detail is in xFigura's Privacy Policy at https://xfigura.ai/terms#privacy-policy, including the additional disclosures for residents of the EU, UK, and Switzerland.
13. Changes, Extension, and Cancellation
(a) xFigura may extend the submission Deadline by up to one week (to December 6, 2026). Any extension will be announced before the original Deadline, and winner announcement dates move accordingly.
(b) xFigura reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the Competition if fraud, technical failure, or any other factor beyond its reasonable control impairs its integrity, with notice posted on the Competition page.
14. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, xFigura, its employees, jurors, and partners are not liable for any loss or damage arising from participation in the Competition, other than liability that cannot be excluded by law. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or willful misconduct.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict of laws rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, and entrants consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
16. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
